Just a couple of weeks back, we brought you a teaser track from young Australian band Snakadaktal's upcoming debut album (which is due in August). In my review of "Ghost," I commented on their musical growth, and nothing has changed on the release of the album's first official single "Hung On Tight."
The tracks show off the band's increasing versatility. "Ghost" was an introspective, dreamy ballad, while the new single takes on a much more upbeat, vibrant pace. The band's two-pronged vocal combination also switches, with Sean Heathcliff's heartfelt tones suiting this track to a tee. Snakadaktal have developed an incredible talent at creating musical landscapes, and on "Hung On Tight" this is displayed on a vast scale.
I've always thought of Snakadaktal as an exceptional young band, but I don't think this does them justice. Their age shouldn't be taken into account anymore -- they're just exceptional, plain and simple. Sleep in the Water is an album everyone should be excited for.
