Smokey Robotic is a group that is hard to put into words. Never sticking to just one genre, they instead create music they dub "superfuture," a potent mix of pop, hip hop and electro. Formed by vocalists Seer and Father Dude, as well as producers !llmind and Konrad, Smokey Robotic has easily become one of the most exciting groups to break out this year.
The group is currently preparing their third album titled The Shark and the Helicopter and just released their first single off it titled "Blast Off." The song has a 808s & Heartbreak feel to it without the overbearing auto-tune. There is really something for everyone on this track. The vibrant instrumental sets the backdrop for Seer to introduce the catchy chorus, followed by Father Dude's singing that one can't help draw comparisons to Jamiroquai.
I already liked the song at that point but it wasn't until the hip-hop side of Smokey came in that I truly fell in love with the song.
Here is what Smokey Robotic had to say regarding the track:
"Powered by women and hot sauce, Smokey's ship continues to speed through musical galaxies, swerving gracefully like drunken Nascar drivers, in and out of genres. "Blast Off" is a new song off of their upcoming album, The Shark and the Helicopter, which will be released this summer." - Smokey Robotic
For those who are unfamiliar with Smokey Robotic, I have included two of my favorite songs off their Outside The Lines EP, released at the end of last February. "Forever My Love" has been a big hit of theirs, with the music video totaling over 100,000 plays on YouTube. The music video is one of the coolest and most entertaining videos I have seen all year, and I highly recommend watching if you haven't already. Head to YouTube, or scroll down past the bonus tracks to watch the video.
"Redzone" is lesser known song of theirs, but is easily one of my favorites. It has a nice reggae feel to it that is perfect for the summer. You can purchase both of these songs on iTunes.
