Why do we like this?
Originally recorded by The Shirelles in 1961, an under-the-radar group named Smith took the hit to top ranks in the U.S. in 1969. "Baby It's You," which was released on their debut album, A Group Called Smith, was Smith's first and most successful release to date.
While some of you may know this track from Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (2007), the main standout of this cover track is the belted soulful and sultry vocals of frequent vocalist Gayle McCormick. Featuring three lead singers and a B-3 Hammond organ, Smith could best be described as a band with hard rock and soul arrangements mixed with some R&B influences.
