Why do we like this?

Melbourne's SMILE has the honor of my first review of 2016 -- funny enough with a track entitled "Holiday" (and this writer has just returned from one). The lads have been close to my heart since their debut release a couple of years back, and have solidified that status with this drifty new track.

Having moved to Melbourne recently, I've noticed more of a culture around gritty, slacker rock, and in turn have begun to enjoy the genre even more. With so many great bands, record labels, and radio stations championing great rock music, SMILE is carving out their own solid niche. Laid-back and rough, "Holiday" has an incredible warmness that shines throughout, giving it a feeling of familiarity and honesty. Get yourself a cold tinnie, find a comfy spot in the park and let this one rip over and over.

"Holiday" is the second single from SMILE's upcoming album, due out on Smooch Records shortly.
