Slow Dancer is the side-project of Melbourne band Oh Mercy guitarist Simon Okely, and my goodness has he set the bar high on his latest release. A talented producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist in his own right, Okely's nostalgic solo work is a nod to childhood family trips he took through the western Australian countryside.
"Took the Floor Out" is his latest work, and while the tempo is a lot more subdued than Oh Mercy's jams, it still possesses a familiar groove to it. It's part country, part pop-rock, and altogether gorgeous -- Okely's heartfelt vocals flow effortlessly above a bed of wavering guitar and downtempo percussion.
There's plenty to love on Slow Dancer's music -- it's slow sway, it's wistfulness -- and I'm sure plenty of you will find it as irresistible as I do. Check out his previous releases here.
