Fans of Slothrust's 2014 LP, Of Course You Do, have been waiting patiently for the blues-rock band to come out with recorded versions of their new music, as they've been playing it live for a little while now. Luckily, they just released "Horseshoe Crab," the first single off of their next record, Everyone Else, and it's everything we've come to expect from the band and then some.
Those of you who haven't seen Slothrust recently but are familiar with their old work, you might be slightly shocked at the shift in tone from their last album. It appears that in the 2 years since their last release the band has matured in their tone.
On "Horseshoe Crab," Leah, the singer and lyricist, makes it clear that she has lost the girlish bitterness present on the last album, and is coming forth with the complexities of her own life and womanhood. Her lament of "When I get better, I'll treat you like I used to," comes off as more of a plea towards whomever its directed, but most importantly signifies recognition of faults and a desire for reconciliation–sure signs of personal emotional growth.
If the rest of Everyone Else is equally intimate and self-aware, it's sure to be an incredibly impressive album.
