Slenderbodies has teamed up with Tim Atlas to bring us “Focus:" a hazy, smooth indie R&B track with elements of funk, pop, and hip hop that’s entrancing in all the right ways. Released on March 11th, 2021, this single follows Slenderbodies' previous collab with Australian band Crooked Colours, and is the perfect mix of laidback, sensual and melodic.
Speaking about the track in a statement, Slenderbodies said:
“Focus” was written at the beginning of quarantine. When we were catching up with Tim at the start of the session, he mentioned he’d taken a bit of a break from writing recently because the state of the world had been so chaotic that it was difficult to create. We generalized that story to the concept for 'focus' and wrote it about how when we are settling into a task, sometimes the world, friends or responsibilities can take us out of the creative space we try to keep in our heads."
The artists collaborated virtually, each in their own homes, each deep in the void of quarantine. It always astounds me, the creativity that 2020 was able to produce despite its chaos, fear and uncertainty. I myself spent most of it sat on the couch in yesterday’s track pants, elbow deep in a bag of Doritos and soul-deep in a pit of anxiety, wiling away the time by appreciating the musical endeavours of others more productive than I. I suppose, in a way, I was somewhat productive, as I was part of the community that was able to give deeply enjoyable offerings like “Focus” a welcome place to land. It’s all about that balance, right?
