Skux is a punk/riot inspired project from New Zealand and they've just released an insanely fun remix of their track "On Her Way" off their 2016 debut EP, The Two Sides of She. They've teamed up with New York-based brother duo French Horn Rebellion and converted the slower, moodier original to a bright and triumphant chilled-out dance track.
The beat eludes to a Kaytranada-esque marriage of house and hip-hop, the vocals are sped up and feel more colourful and, of course, the crisp and confident french horn lines bring a whole new life and energy. It actually feels like a kind of nu ska sound with the horns and ska upstrokes of the guitars but with a more house-y beat for danceability.
It's a great track all-round and a great example of the kind of interesting sound that can develop from collaborations of artists with polar opposite sounds (and geographic locations).
