Why do we like this?
The teaming up of industry darling Sivu and vocalist Marika Hackman is an unexpected match, but one that's nonetheless made in heaven. Unveiling their collaborative effort titled "I Hold," the two prepare for their joint headline tour beginning in Brighton on December 10. Until the tour begins, we have this darkly ambient single to hold us off.
"I Hold" was produced by extraordinaire Charlie Andrew, from Alt-J. Combining ethereal vocals and multi-layered harmonies on a minimal electronic backdrop, the single is dark, introspective, and laced with emotion. You can immerse yourself in the wave of acoustics that are constantly accented by glitchy electronic additives. While potentially classified as dark pop, "I Hold" continues to surprise throughout the duration, incorporating different folky textures and left-field melodies.
Marika Hackman's vocals soar, swarming and swirling in ways that manage to accommodate Sivu's as well. "I Hold" is truly is a collaborative effort, where our sonic experience exists in an intimate landscape.
