With her new track, "Chemicals," Stockholm-based songstress Sirena has served up an irresistible slice of Scandi-pop.
Bubbly synths are overlaid with airy vocals that reveal a certain vulnerability to Sirena's songwriting. The opening verse is pleasant enough, but it's the killer chorus that will stick with you. The track explodes into a "Chandelier"-esque flurry of electronic bass and beats -- but that's where the Sia comparisons end. Sirena's vocals are breezy (not belted out) and seem to simply float over the pulsing beats in the background.
Self-styled as "spiritual pop," Sirena is most definitely one to look out for, and her playful but bold style is certainly refreshing.
