Why do we like this?
San Francisco got the luxury of hosting the 10 year anniversary party for one of my all time favorites, Simian Mobile Disco, last Thursday. Even though I had just seen them a few days prior down in the desert for Coachella, I had to go to the revelry. Mostly because I had a big case of FOMO (fear of missing out) going on.
Welcomed by a full house and an effervescent crowd, when the lights went down the hands and cheers went up. They kicked off the set with a celebratory balloon drop that immediately got the audience in a frenzy. Over the next hour and a half, the set covered many of their classics, like "I Believe," to some of their most recent songs, such as "Cerulean."
If you are unfamiliar with their live performance, James Ford and Jas Shaw showcase their side-by-side analogue production that is quite unique. Forget the fake turntables, or even just pressing the play button in most cases... imagine a setup with multiple cabinets, a chaotic jungle of wires, and other frequency bending equipment -- it's definitely a site to see in person. Next time Simian is in your neck of the woods, do yourself a favor: buy a ticket, get your dancing shoes on, and go enjoy the ride.
