My first exposure to future garage producer Shift K3Y came from an excerpt featured on (fellow Brit) Toddla T's weekly radio show (hilarious, highly recommended). Some of you may have also listened to and loved his remix of AlunaGeorge's "Attracting Flies." My point being: he's been around, but now he's got a lot of material he'll be releasing, and I'm sure a greater amount of people will take notice.
I find "Keep Your Mouth Shut" to be positively delightful, but I've always been partial to that uniquely British brand of rap that feels so, so grounded in the real and the unflattering. This is an interesting hybrid, but not the only one -- Think The Streets transplanted to a scene now dominated by future bass. I'm excited to see where more outcroppings of this genre will emerge (outside of, of course, its home).
Listen, laugh, it's goofy, it's great.
