Why do we like this?
Shield Patterns' Claire Brentnall possesses one of the most memorable voices I have heard in a long time. On the Manchester duo's new single, "Dust Hung Heavy," her sweetly whispered vocals echo and reverberate over looped beats, becoming hypnotic.
"Dust Hung Heavy" is a beautifully crafted song, with a subdued mid-section of trembling piano building to a multi-layered crescendo where Brentnall's voice becomes almost indiscernible from the rolling beats and haunting synths that develop as the track closes.
This is a single that promises great things from the twosome, whose combination of Kate Bush-esque vocals with dark, subby soundscapes is a thing of great beauty.
