If you're a Kiwi and you haven't heard of Shapeshifter, then you must be living under a rock. If you're not a Kiwi and you haven't heard of Shapeshifter, then you're missing out.
Originating in 1999, this group of musicians who met at jazz school have come a long way. From their first album, Realtime, to their latest release earlier this year, Delta, these guys know how to produce good quality music and are famous for putting on an incredibly energetic live show. Lead singer P.Diggs has a uniquely soulful voice that just wouldn't be Shapeshifter without it.
"Twin Galaxies" is off an earlier album, The System is a Vampire (released just after Shapeshifter were signed to London's Hospital Records in 2010), but as it's a favorite of mine, I thought I'd share it. P.Diggs sings about loved ones lost -- about finding strength to move on alone. The lyrics are raw and full of emotion, and can relate to anyone who's gone through some sort of transitional phase of pain and self-growth.
Shapeshifter tour the Northern Hemisphere frequently. If you're a fan of live drum and bass, then don't miss them. Check out their SoundCloud here.
