Shan Vincent de Paul is about as forward thinking as hip-hop can get. With an influence outside of music -- branching into areas like spirituality -- along with inspiration sourced from filmmakers like Paul Thomas Anderson and Terrence Malick, it's easy to hear Shan's heightened sense of style.
With a twist of surrealism and pinches of his cultural and religious upbringing sprinkled into his records, SVDP stands out against a constant stream of the standard gangster rap style I'm used to hearing. And this isn't the first time I've heard him rip apart a track. Back in September of 2015, I discovered his music by way of the artistic music video below.
