Shafiq Husayn is the man behind the curtain. The lone co-writer ever employed by Badu, the Bronx-raised, L.A.-cultivated beatsmith has been mastering the drum machine since his days with Ice-T's Rhyme Syndicate, most notably reaching a creative apex with Sa-Ra Creative Partners and working with NERD, J Dilla, Bilal and Kanye West.
Fiq is always onto the next new though. After the criminally slept on En A-Free Kah, he's carefully crafting his follow up LP, The L∞P. And he's working with one of the best indie labels in the world, Eglo Records.
The first taste is the It's Better For You EP. A three-song affair, the taste test is centered around the eponymous jammy jam. The guitar sounds soaked in chicken grease, the mellow keys are heavenly, and the cherry on top is a deftly utilized Anderson Paak. Modern soul at its finest.
