Why do we like this?
To the delight of many a Canadian hip-hop fan, our cleverest lyricist Shad is back with a new album, Flying Colours. For those in the know, Shad is a national treasure -- a rapper who's made a name for his authentic, witty and socially conscious persona rather than bravado or hype. He is basically the bizarro world version of Drake, in a good way. He has made many loyal fans since his first album dropped in 2005, building his fandom even among those who don't spend much time spinning rap CDs on their discmans.
Here's a track featuring electro pop princess Lights that shows the rapper is equally adept pulling from the electro scene as he is from more old school hip-hop. Also, check out the track "Dreams," which may or may not feature a jazz piano riffing from Radiohead's "All I Need," depending on how close you listen.
Shad is currently on tour across Canada, featuring Vancouver homeboys We Are The City.
Also, did I mention it's Remembrance day in Canada today? Remember to remember!
