Produced with long-time collaborator Mucky, "One Armed Lullaby" is the newest single to come out of the Iranian born, Netherlands-based artist's camp.
I'm a big fan of her real, honest sound, the way she brushes off genre boundaries and norms, and indeed, her image, when the world expects women artists to be looking or sounding a certain way.
There is a beautiful darkness in this track which is further accentuated by the forlorn wailing of vocals and sirens, creating a sparse, contemporary R&B sound. Her sultry vocals weave in and out of the heavy, trap leaning electronic grounding of the track, melding effortlessly to the music, simplistic, yet with a real depth to the lyrics.
Sevdaliza is a recent graduate of the Redbull Music Academy, and the single is 14/20 of the Red Bull 20 Before 16 series.
