Why do we like this?
Sene has been rapping since his teens, but a few years ago the Brooklynite found a second wind as a singer/songwriter/producer. His work with Denitia Odigie has created some powerful and accessible pop music. Still, the man has raps, and today he's back to that.
If you're not listening intently, "This Kinda Low" might sound deceitfully cheery. The handclaps, the bubbly synths, the cherubic hook -- it all belies the gravity of the subject matter.
The track blends sung and rapped vocals to explore the dull boredom of a 'safe' life, a squeaky clean facade that has something a bit darker and a bit more interesting underneath.
