"The Stars Below" is one of my favorite tracks from Seekae's recent album The Worry, and Melbourne's LUCIANBLOMKAMP has absolutely done it justice on this phenomenal new remix.
Injecting a lot of his own signature style into the track, Lucian melts a crackly vintage sound with industrial creaks and crashes. From the first beat to the last, this is a wholly new song.
Split, crushed, and distorted, it starts off sounding like a scratched up vinyl played above a clunky piano in a musky dive bar -- until a couple layers of Downward Spiral-era glitch join in for good measure.
While Seekae's original track dances around flickery synths and Alex Cameron's deep lilt, this remix brings each layer to the front, adding a weighted beat, heavier experimental sounds, and a thrilling sense of never knowing what's around the corner.
It's not often that a remix is equally as strong as a wonderful original tune, but this is undoubtedly one of those times.
