Marial Maher is the leading lady of Brooklyn-based indie pop collective Seasick Mama. The titular track off her debut EP,
Dead Like Money (produced with help by Mark Turrigiano), begins as a faceoff between Trent Reznor's industrial pop sound and
Portishead's hankering electronic vibes. It quickly mellows out as it transitions into a groovy bass line and filtered vocals evocative of early 90s alternative rock with a modern pop twist.
She then breaks it down with an infectiously catchy chorus, but not before asking the important question, "Do I have to pay for this!?" While she's not referring to your purchase of her new EP (since the song's lyrics refer to the newfound rigors of fame), the question remains: why wouldn't you want to?
