How can you not love Sean Price? He's the affable, cynical thug rapper, content to stay in his lane. A Scrooge-like persona in hip-hop, fans' respect for him is grounded in love with just a tinge of fear. I mean, he is from Brownsville after all.
The good people at Coal Mine Records recently got Sean to link with Australian producer M-Phazes for an EP,
The Land of the Crooks. A pretty interesting move for a producer who's most recent placement was on Eminem's record. This gives Sean's vocals a chance to live on instrumentals that are a bit more fleshed out than most underground hip-hop production, and in turn, Phazes gets a full project with one of rap's finest grimy lyricists.
One of my favorite tracks on the project is "Bag of Shit." Yep, that's the title. It starts with a hilarious skit that plays on the multiple meanings of shit in our modern lexicon, from figurative to literal. Afterwards Sean does his usual 1-2 over some G-Funk-ish keys and bass.
