2:54, which stems from the timeline in a Melvins song, consists of Colette and Hannah Thurlow, two sisters from Bistol who recently released their self-titled debut album via Fat Possum with critical acclaim.
Originally released in 1990 by Seal and Adamski and later covered by George Michael in '92, this cover of "Killer" kindles 90s reminiscence while still taking it places you wouldn't expect. Once the rung-out guitar riffs, drowned vocals and distorted waves of sound creep in and settle at the 50-second mark, the basslines are brought in with reverb and steady beats, eventually leading into the recognized chorus.
In an interview about their "Killer" release, Colette was quoted saying:
"We thought it would be interesting to re-work a pop song and put a 2:54 spin on it. The lyrics are really moving too; melancholic and tough. To me it feels like a song about hope and solidarity."
