Why do we like this?
The coco swirled in hot water like mud in a puddle, slightly under-sweetened so as to make for a 'healthier' choice. The cookies, however, stacked neatly in a bowl rested between the two armchairs. A blanket fell over the young couple who settled on the balcony to watch the sunrise and munch away at some freshly baked cookies...with their low-fat hot chocolate.
"I was thinking..." the one began.
"Did it hurt?" the other interupted.
As usual, a cheeky comment was made by the one, and as quick as lightning was returned by the other.
"I'm going to take a really long shower this morning."
A smirk showed that the threat to use all the hot water on a cold winter's day was said in jest. It was met with a fast pinch like a frog's tongue catching its prey and then pulling back.
Between the giggles, a knowing look was shared — a look of love and an appreciation of humor. The two shared the moment fully.
It's strange how love can bring with it the twinkling look of connection and joy and yet, it is from within those same set of eyes one can see the cold glare of anger. In one partner, we meet two sides of the same coin. A coin, though, that is considered a treasure to most.
Love is undoubtedly something that many humans seek in their pursuit of happiness. For the larger portion of those who do, it comes with ups and downs. "Race for Caress" is about 'longing for love and chasing it for your whole life.' With the lyric "It’s a race for caress / It’s a lifelong mess" Rasmus Littauer of School of X manages to touch on the complicated nature of human love.
"Race for Caress" is a change of pace for the historically melancholic-leaning indie-pop artist, marking the second of two singles with a more upbeat sound. It's a catchy track that while light in sound holds weight in meaning. I hope you enjoy it.
