“Am I Worth It” is the lead single on New Zealand artist Sarah Mary Chadwick’s forthcoming album, 9 Classic Tracks (although the album actually has 11).
I’ve listened to this track a handful of times now, and every time I have, I find something more to love about it. It’s rumbling, visceral, and devastating.
Opening on deep synths and a heartfelt (or is it heartbroken) vocal melody, the emotional track begins to build, layer by layer, with a sparse yet demanding beat. I love the melody – it’s simple yet powerful, and completely captivating. There’s a vulnerability and immense sadness that runs through her husky melody. It really does draw you in. Vague echoes and piano chords mingle with the synths nicely, creating a natural flow and an organic, ambient atmosphere.
9 Classic Tracks is Chadwick’s second full-length album, released on March 27 through Rice Is Nice via Inertia.
