Why do we like this?
Hello percussion! As an avid fan of all things percussion, Sarah Johnsone's "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl" has got my heart.
Booming, badass indie rock vibes is what this song brings when it brings it hard. In the softer moments, we have the gorgeous vocals of Rising north-east artist Sarah Johnsone. As they take center stage, they reveal a bluesy/jazzy undertone like the lowering of a silk gown by someone who knows how to reveal what they have with flawless timing.
"Don't Wanna Be Your Girl" is explosive at times and pulls back at times — the perfect push and pull to keep the listener engaged. Speaking to the track, Sarah explains:
“I’ve found that my lyrics always tend towards the sombre side, so for this single I wanted to juxtapose it with energetic riffs and guitar solos. It’s the first recording I made with my band, which gave me way more scope and depth musically. The song is about falling for someone who you know is no good, but it isn’t a downcast tune at all.”
You can find all things Sarah on their linktree. Enjoy!
