Why do we like this?

What were you doing when you were 18? Or even 17? The youngest member of San Cisco, Jordi James (guitar, vocals, keys) isn't even finished with high school, a rather depressing thought for this 26-year-old reviewer. Playing with Josh Biondillo (guitar, vocals, keys), Scarlett Stevens (drums) and Nick Gardner (bass, keys), San Cisco has released a fantastic debut EP, Golden Revolver. We featured the single on last week's Fresh Meat playlist, but here's a full album review for you.

Hailing from the musical hotbed of remote Western Australia (luminaries such as the Sleepy Jackson, Tame Impala, and the Panics also call WA home), these four have already been part of the 2011 Big Day Out and Laneway Festivals and are set to support Architecture in Helsinki shortly. There are also plans to release a second EP later in the year.

Their musical talents are not representative of their tender years, with catchy hooks and a laid-back style combining perfectly with obvious musical aptitude. The end product is fantastically likable music which gets better with every listen. What I'd give to have this much ability at this age.

The EP merges elements of indie pop, country/folk and synth (along with some well-placed cow bell). Title track "Golden Revolver" is a bright sunny day in song form, the delightful chorus vocal combinations a definite highlight. It also comes with a fun and grainy short film clip.

The remaining three tracks ("Girls Do Cry," "John's Song," and my personal favorite, "Spangled Streets") follow along a similar vein of style; the EP finishes off with a barnstorming cover of Tame Impala's hit track "Solitude is Bliss".

San Cisco are a group with everything on their side, and I for one hope they take advantage of this"¦goodness, I feel so old saying that.
