I find myself here, on this rainy day in Cape Town with lightning striking uncharacteristically, wondering how many hours of music Samuel Nicholson has consumed to influence his style of music. Tracing the time, the experiences, the emotions, and the many loosely joined dots of music that trail through numerous genres, ages, and stages of the artist's life.
"Gummi" marks the third single from the upcoming album, Birthday Suit, which will be released on June 9th. Speaking about the album, Nicholson explains:
"The record is a dysfunctional self-portrait of my life at a time when I was falling deeply in love. Having previously gathered that I am not easy to love, I began to write these songs as a way of warning this person about my nature and a way of being realistic about my ability to love and support another human being at that time."
Heartbreaking to read, and if you listen closely to the song, you can feel it in there too. "Gummi" is a multi-dimensional song that offers a captivating journey worthy of a moment of tightly concentrated attention. For the keen listener, this song is a perfect fit.
