Why do we like this?

Old bandmate Justin Vernon lends backing vocals to this latest offering from Sean Carey, ahead of the April 1 release of Carey's sophomore album, Range of Light.

"Crown the Pines" is an incredibly energetic flurry of sound, driven by rapid percussion and layered with piano, violins, xylophone, and, of course, those two beautiful voices that sound so good together. It all sounds and feels like some sort of cacophonous rainfall in a forest.

Carey has been crafty with the release of these latest tracks; while "Fire Scene" served as a beguiling reminder of his rightful place as a serious solo artist in folk, "Crown the Pines" is something to get excited about. It worked, Sean. Bring on April 1. You'd better not be joking.

Head on over to Jagjaguwar to see a list of North American and European tour dates, as well as information about pre-ordering Range of Light.
