Perth's RW Grace (formerly Grace) returns with "All The Friends I Lost," a track that I find melodically and tonally unnerving, but I really like it. I've listened to it a few times now, and I discover something new on each repeat.
Music aside, I think it's a really interesting track because it questions my expectations about female-fronted electro-pop. Not all music is supposed to be honey to your ears, of course -- but there are certain styles where you automatically look for, or unconsciously try to identify certain sounds, atmospheres and patterns. RW Grace has taken that notion and flipped it completely on its head, which usually only happens when a track starts to really veer into "experimental" territory.
The single comes ahead of RW Grace's debut EP, Love It Need It Miss It Want It, set for release on November 20.
