Australian ensemble RÃœFÃœS is known for soaring indie electronic ballads that glimmer on the dance floor. So it's a pleasant and unexpected surprise to hear a Yolanda Be Cool rework that takes a darker pass over the original.
RÃœFÃœS makes atmospheric music, devoid of context and ready for interpretation. This has proved problematic in the past, but I think it actually works here in its hazy, wailing establishment (but not propagation) of the scene.
As always, lead singer Tyrone Lindqvist is omnipresent with his sleek vocals driving the track even as they are sliced and layered.
This could be a new direction for the group, if they're listening to the slew of interpretations they've inspired. This, if anything, testifies that people want more to the story.
