Hold on to your hearts, friends. I barely know where to begin.
Australian singer/songwriter Dustin Tebbutt is increasingly known for writing, recording, producing, and performing incomparable, devout, love notes. My introduction to Tebbutt is credited to his not-so-long-ago collaboration with The Kite String Tangle. TKSTXDT’s song “Illuminate” remains one of the most beautiful songs I have ever experienced...until now.
Tebbutt has released a RÜFÜS cover with another remarkable Aussie artist, Lisa Mitchell. Tebbutt and Mitchell will tour Australia this June, which is described as an “intrinsically collaborative affair.” This is my admittedly first brush with Mitchell, who has released three albums and was previously spotlighted on “Australian Idol.”
“I’ve wanted to do a cover of ‘Innerbloom’ for a while now, it’s my favourite tune off RÜFÜS / RÜFÜS DU SOL‘s last record,” Tebbutt wrote on his social media and website. “When Lisa and I were talking about doing a cover together we had a bunch of more traditional singer-songwriter songs on the list, but this one really stood out as a bit of a challenge and we thought we could do something special with it.”
Tebbutt and Mitchell’s version of “Innerbloom” is pure perfection. Together these artists have managed to take an already irresistible song and reshape it into a prayer. This empyrean song has the same intangible qualities as Tebbutt’s other works– far too dear and delicate to fathom. Each note, each noise, is so fragile it’s hard to keep your heart from shattering into a thousand, mirrored pieces as you listen over and over again.
Enjoy every second, my loves.
