Why do we like this?
It would be silly to claim that throwback pop/punk sounds better in an Australian accent. But there's certainly something excellent about Sydney's Royal Headache and their new single "Down the Lane."
A well-crafted, tightly composed pop song at its core, the track's driving beat and catchy hook provides a solid base for a touch of fuzzy guitar feedback and a hint of growl that toughens up almost Buddy Holly-esque vocals. There's a richness to the sound -- perhaps it's Royal Headache's light touch with the fuzz, preventing them from obscuring the musicality of their sound. Whatever the case, "Down the Lane" is most definitely a good time of a tune.
