Why do we like this?
Parisian-based Rone is one of my favorite minimal electronic artists, so when we were offered a premiere of this new track titled "Tag," you can imagine how quickly I jumped at the opportunity. How'd that come about, you might ask? Well...
On August 23rd, Rone is playing a show in London alongside Rocketnumbernine and Throwing Snow at the Waiting Room as part of an Inverted Audio and Electronic Explorations showcase. Yes, that sentence is a mouthful -- but if it piques your interest, I'd highly recommend you look into buying tickets here. It's a small and intimate show, and I seriously can't wait to attend.
Wanting to bring some attention to the showcase, we asked Rone's camp for a single to go alongside this post. What we weren't expecting was a whole new amazing song -- specifically, "Tag." Clocking in at just over four minutes, the track builds up slowly, layering rhythms on top of synth and vocal loops in a manner that invites the listener to sway back and forth as if already in the club. It's simple and yet intricate -- a style I find myself quite enjoying.
You'll find the song included as a bonus on the reissue of Rone's 2012 album Tohu Bohu, alongside 6 other new tracks -- available for purchase here.
