Earlier this year the prodigious pianist Robert Glasper made a concerted effort to bring jazz into the mainstream via hip-hop, with his accessible and awesome guest-filled LP
Black Radio. Recently, to remind fickle audiences, he has issued a remix album:
Black Radio Recovered: The Remix EP.
The six track EP features a few cuts that didn't make the album (Dilla tributes!) and some heavy remixes of album cuts by folks like Black Milk, Pete Rock, and The Roots. The cut I was drawn to, however, is a remix by Jah Jah Muldrow aka Miss One aka Georgia Anne Muldrow. Still young, the producer/singer has been amazing the likes of Madlib and J Dilla with her drum programming since her early 20s. Her sound is very personal and at the same time universal -- it's intrinsic. She reworks "Consequences of Jealousy," one of the more sublime cuts off the original LP, adding a heavier groove to the track and adding some supporting vocals.
If you love music that makes you feel good, this is a sure shot!
