After stumbling acrossJaguar Jonze, I was watching her live on Instagram where one of her fans mentioned Rina Sawayama. And, cue blog post:
Three flags - the Pride Flag, the Flag of Japan, and the British Flag - hang above Rina Sawayama's debut album,Sawayama. This genre-bending album is an open, honest, and brave exploration of identity.
"Comme des Garçons (Like the Boys)" leans more towards pop but still manages to break the mold as Sawayama's unique creative-vision slices right through the genre, delivering a distinct sound.
While a flag is, quite honestly, a piece of coloured fabric waving in the wind, we look up to the mast and draw meaning. And whilea piece of art that's personal to the artist, perhaps many will be able to draw meaning from it...and maybe even feel less alone in our big, wide world.
Want more? Fly over to Rina Sawayama's debut album,Sawayama. (It's kind of like if '90s Britney Spears had piercings and told people to "shut the fuck up" more often.)
