Hypnotic Brass Ensemble
Why do we like this?
Musician and producer extraordinare Sylvester Onyejiaka, aka Sly 5thave, comes through with yet another pop-turned-orchestral cover.
After tackling Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar, Sly takes Rihanna's ubiquitous trap/strip-club anthem, "Pour It Up," and gives it the ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra treatment. The song was already pretty great; anyone who could resist singing along to the eponymous chorus line is either lame or 40+. Sly keeps the infectious quality of the original but lets you pretend you are better than your proletariat counterpart by going sans vocal and adding some brass and reeds!
Jokes aside, Sly shows a mastery of the old and the current with these covers. There's a reason Prince wants him on his team. For the inquisitive listener, Sly's jazz album, Akuma, comes out in early 2014.
