Why do we like this?

I'm not sad. I swear. But I can't say the same for Rightfield.

Their latest single "Birthday Party" comes across as a downer, and yet it's hitting my eardrums pretty darn well.

Maybe it's the melody. Maybe it's the mixing and approach. Maybe it's that it captures a modern sort of indie rock perfectly, a la Mallrat or Billie Eilish.

Bottom line is I can dig it.
