Revier is a Sydney group that has grown out of the solo project of singer/songwriter Jack Frogatt. Having developed into its current state as a four-piece, the band released their debut (self-titled) EP at the start of December -- a piece of work that reveals their significant potential coming into the new year.
What stands out about this band is the fact that they've gone to significant lengths to maintain the intimacy of a solo act, while still producing that full, more well-rounded sound only a band can. The EP's single "Coins On Your Eyes" is a perfect example of this formula, with Frogatt's astoundingly expressive vocals backed perfectly by a smokey blend of keys, guitar, and loose percussion. Despite the smokey, drifting opening, this track really opens up toward the end as it picks up pace and intensity -- it's almost as if it's two songs in one.
The EP as a whole is top-notch emotionally driven pop-rock, made all the more interesting with the added elements of jazz and swing. Grab it for just $5 on the Revier's Bandcamp.
