Canadian Reuben Bullock fronts the project titled Reuben and the Dark. I had the pleasure of seeing them play in Toronto, Canada for their celebratory event put on by
Arts & Crafts (who they just recently signed with) and at the
North by North East music festival; it was love at first sight and listen. The five bandmates are harmonically and musically soulmates, accenting everything that should evoke focus.
"Shoulder Blade" brings us emotional depiction through raw acoustics, downtempo percussion, and appropriate use of horns (with a hint of appreciation for Mumford and Sons and The Lumineers). The chordal builds and dips, showcasing Reuben and the Dark's ability to recognize the value of taking a listener on a journey of sorts.
I don't vouch for many bands, but I must say the impact of Reuben and the Dark's presence both on and off stage is really something to take note of.
