Why do we like this?
Reptar has been making waves in the Southeast for a little while now, with their unique take on indie electro/pop, if you can even call it that, and should reach an even wider audience this year. What I enjoy about Reptar's sound is that they gladly sidestep the limitations of genre to make room for whatever works. Any given track off of the band's debut effort, Oblangle Fizz Y'all, is a welcomed departure from the ordinary.
"Rainbounce" is all over the place. I like that. It plays things fast and loose, but never loses composure, which may say more about the band than the song in the long run. Even as the track breaks down and spirals into madness, a flurry of synths gives way to the reassuring melody of a piano, and before you know Reptar is bringing "Rainbounce" home.
2012 may not know it yet, but it needs more Reptar. Perhaps even Reptar on ice?
