New York hip-hop is in the midst of a long-awaited renaissance, with this year looking likely to see the city reclaim its crown from the West Coast thanks to a host of young talent.
Joey Bada$$ has already given us the dope B4.DA.$$., while Action Bronson and A$AP Mob are gearing up for new releases. Then there's the young movement, with Vinny Cha$e, Troy Ave, and Bobby Shmurda just a number of guys who should blow up in 2015.
This brings us to Remy Banks, a gritty, confronting MC who's about to take hold of the NY scene.
With his forthcoming solo project, higher, on the horizon, Banks has released the anthemic "rem." Curiously, "rem." is produced by L.A.-based Odd Future member Left Brain, but is as NY as the Empire State Building.
Joined by fellow World's Fair member Nasty Nigel, Banks goes hard over the twinkling keys and crisp snares, with the sing-along chorus "get money, fuck bitches, that's how I'm living," a mini-mantra for the streets.
