Australian hip-hop's credibility is at an all-time high, with acts like Hiaitus Kaiyote, Milwaukee Banks, Baro, and the One Day collective producing some absolutely incredible music. But Australia's brightest star might just be 23-year-old Melbourne-based lyricist Remi. Joined by collaborators Sensible J and Dutch, Remi has released two albums to date, and this year's Raw x Infinity record is vying for the title of "favorite record of the 2014."
I'm quite happy to admit I've been a latecomer to the Remi bandwagon, and I'm completely on board now. With singles "Tyson," "Sangria," and "Livin" already officially released, I'm pretty chuffed to cover his brand new single "Aviation (Disco Weed)." An upbeat weed anthem, the production and vocal delivery on this track is absolutely top notch. While it's fun and catchy in its makeup, it's still seriously good music.
On top of this, Remi is a proven live performer, and is starting to gain plenty of interest overseas. He's supported the likes of Danny Brown and De La Soul on recent Australian tours, with debut performances in the UK and Europe scheduled shortly.
I don't usually provide links to iTunes, but in the case of Raw x Infinity, I'm quite happy to make an exception. Grab this record in full here.
