"Street Fighter" is the latest release from emerging Japanese artist rei brown, formerly known as raybaboon. Under his new alias the producer has been carving out a path using delicate electronic-meets-R&B arrangements, making "Street Fighter" a gem of a tune.
Brown's manipulated vocals are like a hazy fog spreading over the melodic and probing beat. There's touches of electronica, indie, pop, R&B and even a little 60s influence throughout "Street Fighter," with brown referencing the Street Fighter game character Chun-Li and anchoring the track with the repeated soothing refrain "stay in bed."
It's clear brown is all about experimenting when it comes to making music and if "Street Fighter" is just a small taste of what to come, I'm quite excited to see what's next.
