Real Estate is back after a two year silence since releasing In Mind, an album that failed to fully resonate with me. Its sound was stagnant; the group wasn't making great strides in terms of creative progression nor pushing boundaries past the sound they had mastered: breezy, sunshine guitar pop. One track stuck with me in my Spotify likes and that was "Darling," which was conveniently timed at 4:20. Intentional?
Fast forward to the premiere of "Paper Cup" and the band announcing a forthcoming album, The Main Thing, out February 28th via Domino Records. Needless to say, I'm not the only Real Estate fan that feels a restored spark of excitement. In this single, they've recruited the silky vocals of Amelia Meath from synth-pop duo, Sylvan Esso, to add a sparkle to the foundation of Real Estate's staple guitar essence.
I feel there is an upcoming renaissance of older indie acts that I thought had dissipated, and I'm ready for it.
