You must be doing something right when Dave Grohl jumps on your track. So, it was with great interest that I sought out Virginian three-piece RDGLDGRN (pronounced Red Gold Green) and their latest track, "Lootin In London." Influenced by the Washington DC indie punk scene and hip-hop breakdowns, "Lootin In London" is a rambunctious and swaggering number that's very N.E.R.D. like, which shouldn't be surprising, since Pharrell Williams helped with writing and producing their self-titled debut EP last year.
While researching RDGLDGRN, I discovered that their musical style is classified as "indie go-go," a hybrid of indie rock and hip-hop that is synonymous with the Washington area and an obvious component of their sound. You learn something new every day.
That aside, "Lootin In London" is a seriously fun song, and while Grohl's contribution is a great marketing tool, it's the guest vocals of female rapper Angel Haze on the anthemic chorus that seal the deal for me.
