Vibe.
I can't keep telling you how important that is to me when I'm doing anything. I mean, I won't even go into a restaurant unless I feel the vibe of it, on the inside. I don't care how many Michelin stars or flawless Yelp reviews it has. If I don't fuck with the vibe, I don't step in and sit my ass down, ever.
I do this, pretty much, with everything. I have to feel some sort of connection to it. Once I do, all I can see is myself immersed in it. Encapsulated by the moment until I'm done with it and ready to move on.
"Waves," by Ray B, featuring Shania Rae has multiple vibes that I fuck with, heavy.
The lyrics are cool. The "riding-a-wave," metaphor reminds me of the Fabolous line that goes:
"No disrespect we just on different sides of the wave,
I’m providing the wave you just riding the wave."
But I think it's the vocal performances and balances in textures between the male vocal and female vocal, that I love most – the different spectrums they sit on somehow meet in the middle of those opposing peaks.
I'm not sure that I'm explaining it right, but the soulful R&B could be best compared as a new wave version of a Ja Rule & Ashanti smash-hit single. There's a lazy summer swag to it that makes it even fresher.
Easy enough? Then rock it. What are you waiting for? Press play, baby, and ride the wave.
