Ravyn Lenae, an enormously contemporary, brilliant R&B singer, and personal favorite of mine, is back in the spotlight with a new single from her upcoming EP, alongside the equally scintillating Steve Lacy.
Lenae has worked in the past with emerging talent such as Noname and Smino; it is no surprise to anyone that she has decided to collaborate with someone as gifted as Lacy. Her beautiful, sensual falsetto compliments Lacy’s groovy instrumental perfectly.
Her new song, which highlights the perils of being trapped in a toxic relationship emphasizes Lenae’s ineffable vocal range and sets a nice tone for her rapidly approaching project. Lenae reveals her immeasurable talent on this track as she dances over Lacy’s funky organs and psychedelic guitar riffs. The hook is so hypnotizing, it’s still “spinning, spinning, round and round” in my head.
If you’re prepared to have Ravyn Lenae’s voice in your head all day then go check out this track, and her EP, CRUSH, that drops February 9th.
EDIT: She just released the song's music video.
