Why do we like this?
Sun Ra used to call birthdays arrival days. Today, 12-11-13 marks the latest arrival of Ras_G. The Leimert Park pharaoh of bass uses this regal occasion to share another bugged out and blunted creation with the world.
His Brainfeeder LP, Back On The Planet, was a doozy. Dense with textures, rhythms and codes, the project was not a world of its own, it was a galaxy! _G lobs the planet of "Injera, Lentils and Kale" to Zeroh the Blaqbird. The former becomes one with the chaotic stimulus of the track and, surprisingly, becomes freer through it rather than confined by it.
The video is a continuation of the joyous affair. Shot on location at Mom Alim's Ethiopian restaurant in Los Angeles, Protius directs _G, Z and friends (see if you can spot a few heads) in a celebratory feast. Those that know might find themselves drooling and those still puzzled should head to the nearest injera dispensary ASAP -- just make sure it's a legit spot.
