Why do we like this?
Music is a holy art. It's particularly special because it's formless; though it can be traded and shared in tangible forms, music itself can only be experienced. Artists like Ras_G take full advantage of these unique qualities and put forth an intentional experience through their music.
After laboring for years in Los Angeles and amassing an impressive discography with a variety of outlets, Ras_G and The Afrikan Space Program will emerge (blunt in hand) in full form this summer with Back On The Planet, their first full-length project on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder imprint. Those of us that have been following _G and his ensemble for a minute will recognize the fusion of rhythm and bass, traditional sampling and experimentation, influences of esoteric wisdom and hood knowledge -- though this manifestation is a bit special. _G & the ASP are bringing it all together on this project, giving the listener a full immersion experience in another world.
The first taste of the LP is the meditative "All Is Well." Drowned in percussion and carried forward by a ethereal synth-line, you may find yourself drifting out of your physical shell while listening. The convergence of bass and drums creates worlds within itself, building on itself but avoiding cacophony And, of course, the bass is ridiculous. Get your backwoods ready, it's going to be a smokey summer.
